How We Can Help You

The Services and Help We Provide

Here are some key services provided by The TODAY Group.

 Art Advocacy

The group run an Art Advocacy project managed by our volunteer Angela Malcolm and Susan Fraser the groups Volunteer Co-ordinator.

Volunteer Advocacy

Volunteers provide a wide range of advocacy services including Independent advocacy , collective advocacy, website manager, editor, support worker, database controller etc.  All volunteers complete a 10 week induction programe and are offered the same support, supervison and training as paid staff.

Professional Individual Advocacy

Professional advocacy is provided both by paid and unpaid advocates. This type of advocacy supports a person to represent their own views and opinions. The Management Committee have made the decision to name our unpaid advocates (volunteers), as Professional Independent Advocates. This is because they have the exact same training, support and supervision as their paid colleagues.

Collective Advocacy

Collective advocacy is about groups of people, with a common cause, coming together to raise awareness and to campaign and influence the way mental health services are planned and provided.

This means that you have the right to join groups of people who use mental health services and influence the way that services are provided for you.

Outreach

The group provide an outreach service for people who live in rural areas, or those who prefer total confidential advocacy support.

One example being, a person who does not wish for their family, employer ,or friends to know they are seeking advocacy support.

Support with Self Advocacy Groups

The group support member groups with a wide variety of issues, including information, support, campaigning, raising awareness etc.

Educational Buddy Project

Our group were recently awarded funding from the Big Lottery. This funding allowed the recruitment of an Educational Advocacy Worker. The aim of the project is to provide advocacy and support to enable learners with experience of mental ill health to participate in a course of learning. The Advocacy worker will support learners to overcome any barriers that may prevent them from achieving their goals.

Support will be tailored to meet an indivduals needs and may include support to attend interviews, completing application and bursary forms and classroom and interval support. The Advocacy worker will also provide support with housing and benefits issues as well as supporting or representing learners at meetings relating to health.

This project is run in partnership with Elmwood College and Focus Education. We have an open referral process.

 CITIZEN ADVOCACY

Citizen Advocacy is ordinary citizens to become involved with those who might need support in their communities. It is based on trust between the person being supported and the Advocate. The Advocacy relationship will be on a 1-to-1 basis and it would be long term.
